March 3, 2021 By Scott Gilbert Leave a Comment

There has been a lot of conversation about mindfulness and meditation lately, especially in light of the current pandemic. I wanted to address meditation and simplify what to do and what to expect. This is not just for beginners, but also those who are meditating but not yet realizing results. Press the play icon above.

Show Notes

Here is a brief outline of what you can expect from this podcast episode. Please listen to the podcast for a clear understanding so you can get the most from it.

Meditation Simplified For Real Results

  • Welcome to the Think Blissful blog and podcast, where we simplify the law of attraction!
  • Today we’re going to talk about meditation.
  • We’ll cut through the confusion and simplify meditation.
  • I’m going to try to keep this episode short and sweet.
  • What it is, what it does, what to expect, and what you can do to make it easier
  • A little over a year ago, I did an episode on meditation, but I think it’s time to make a new episode focused more on making it useful, and simple.
  • Last week I was having a conversation with a friend about meditation. It sparked a conversation about how to get the most out of it, and that conversation led to this recording.
  • The turning point that led to this podcast episode was all about what you should or should not be thinking while you meditate. There seems to be some confusion on the subject, so today I’m going to address it head-on.
  • In the audio version of this episode, I go into the detail that will help you gain a more complete understanding of meditation.
  • Please listen to the podcast for the complete discussion.

Let’s Get To These Questions…

  • What is meditation?
    • Perhaps the most effective way to divert your attention from things that are holding you back
  • What does meditation do?
    • It quiets the mind so your vibration can rise
  • What should you expect?
    • Nothing! Stick with me here, I’ll explain (in the audio version)
  • What can you do to make it easier?
    • Understand what’s going on.
  • What should you or should you not be thinking?
    • That’s the heart of our discussion for today
  • How should you start?
    • Don’t worry about preparing or finding the perfect meditation for guidance
    • Just find a quiet comfortable place to sit or lie down
    • Give yourself 15 minutes
    • Focus on your breathing
    • Do this in the morning before you start your day… it will help you center or align yourself and sets the tone for the day ahead

Understanding Meditation for Beginners and Intermediate

Show Notes

Here is a brief outline of what you can expect from this podcast episode. Listen to the podcast because the bullet points are explained.

Meditation

  • This is my first episode addressing meditation
  • My story:
    • In December 2015 I was introduced to two books, “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” and “Creating Affluence”, both by Deepak Chopra
    • Deepak mentions meditation several times and why it’s so important
    • I was against meditation, and said “no way” (really)
    • Over the next four months or so, listening to Deepak as well as many other authors and experts, meditation started to seep into my brain (at least the idea of trying meditation)
    • I started looking for books and articles and how to meditate
    • Nothing was complete enough for me to get it, but I was beginning to understand I needed to do this
    • My point is, if you are not ready to meditate, don’t worry
    • I am now an advocate of meditation, now that I understand it and I am experiencing the results
    • I meditate every day (you don’t have to)
  • It took time and effort for me to understand meditation to the point where it made sense, both to understand it and to actually meditate
  • So let’s get into it Let’s talk about what meditation is and what it is not

Let’s talk about what meditation is and what it is not

  • It’s a method you can use to quiet your mind
  • It’s not some weird esoteric practice by outcasts of society
  • It’s natural, especially when you become keenly aware of your spiritual nature
  • It’s not forced

Why meditate?

  • Meditation is a powerful tool to help manifest your desires
  • That is because when you quiet your mind, you are NOT vibrating on the frequency of your problems (the lack of your desires)
  • Instead, you are raising your vibration to that of your inner being, whereby you are allowing your desires to flow (instead of resisting them)
  • Raising your vibration in the morning helps calibrate your frequency for the entire day

Meditation tips…

  • Don’t try to meditate (I get that’s easier said than done)
  • Trying puts your attention on something that you are not doing (the lack of your desire to meditate), and thereby puts you in a vibration of lack
  • That’s actually good news!
  • That’s because it is much easier to relax and just enjoy instead of trying to do anything
  • The more you meditate, the better you will get
  • Don’t try to write the story, even if it feels good
  • Meditation is the time to “allow” what you have already created through desire (it is waiting for you)
  • When meditating, put your attention on something meaningless (not an issue in your life)
  • Such as your breath or a sound (there are apps for that)
  • When you find yourself thinking, just realize it “listen” to the sound or be aware of your breath. Just shift your attention.

There are different types of meditation, but they all should lead to the same outcome of quieting your mind

  • Some use mantras
  • That’s fine, think of a mantra as something to put your attention on that has no emotional meaning
  • There are guided meditations, some are good, others not so much
  • Do whatever works for your
  • Some meditations are designed to free a particular blockage
  • Personally, I prefer to avoid focusing on any particular issue as it is common to fall back towards the issue you hoping to release

For me, meditation is awesome when I quiet my mind and let it flow

  • If a thought enters your mind that does not feel good (which you can tell with your emotions), move your attention back to your breath or the sound
  • If a thought enters your mind that feels good, as trivial and unrelated as it may seem, enjoy it. That thought came from your inner being, from source. That thought will lead you towards desired manifestation or even a direct action you need to take.
  • Again, let it flow naturally
