The Spiritual Approach to Problem Solving
What is a problem anyway? I am going to define what a problem is for the purpose of this post. A problem is an event, circumstance, or situation that cannot seemingly be easily rectified. We know we have a problem by the way we feel, not by the actual “problem”.
After all, what one person sees as a problem may be nothing more than a minor delay to another. For example, let’s say you were on your way to an important meeting scheduled for 4 o’clock and you get a flat tire. You realize you are going to be late, and now you have a problem. Or do you? It depends on the person. If your focus is on missing the meeting and what others may think, you are indeed incubating a problem for yourself. If, on the other hand, you see this as a minor impediment to your plans, you may quickly jump into action, call ahead to inform people of your circumstance, and make a decision about your attendance to the meeting. You can then turn your attention to the repair of your tire.
These options are two of many different ways to handle the situation, and I chose these to demonstrate the point. The problem is only a problem if it is perceived as a problem.
I recognize that situations come with varying levels of seriousness, yet the process remains the same. This is a spiritual approach, and will become easier with practice and application.
Here’s how to solve a problem…
Face the problem head on
Hiding from a problem will cause anxiety and make the problem fester and grow. Pay attention to your feelings. The problem itself, and the potential anxiety, are feelings that indicate your point of attraction. That means that by experiencing the event as a problem (negative feeling) it is an indicator that you are attracting more negative circumstances around this event, thus taking you farther from the solution. When you face the problem head on, you acknowledge it and therefore diffuse the energy. You will feel at least a small amount of relief, indicating you are moving towards the solution.
See your problem as a project
The word problem has a negative connotation, and a project instills the knowledge that there is a solution. You get to tackle the project, instead of deal with the problem. It already feels better.
Believe there is a solution
Approach your project knowing there is a solution and that you are capable of finding it. You must have faith… faith is belief, and belief is the secret sauce of manifestation.
Write down your problem
Write down your problem, include all the details you can think of. Be sure that you put down only facts, and leave out all opinions. When you commit your thoughts to paper, you will feel an immediate sense of relief because writing it down externalized the problem and immediately disarms and minimizes it by bringing it out into the light. Once the problem is out of your mind on into the light (on paper), you can now see, understand, and tackle your problem head on!
All ideas
Make a list of every possible solution you can think of. Write down everything that flows without any judgment, whether good or bad. Even if you think a solution can never work, write it down anyway. The name of the game here is quantity. The wackier and crazier your ideas, the better. This is a paradox, but stay with me here. Just let everything flow, no matter how insane it seems.
This is important because you would otherwise restrict your creative flow, and your creativity is your door to infinite intelligence… gifts from the universe. Often, it’s the crazy ideas that somehow lead to the solution – either directly or indirectly to and through another idea. Don’t stifle your creativity.
Now that all your ideas and creativity are on paper, now is the time you can judge them. Evaluate each and every idea by doing the following:
- Rate each idea by effectiveness, ease of implementation, time to implement, and cost to implement. Don’t go into detail, just keep the rating system simple. For example: very easy, easy, moderate, hard, very hard
- It may be helpful to first write all ideas down the left side of a page, and make columns for each of the categories to rate
- Rate every idea – do not leave any of them out
- Take note of those ideas you feel would provide the best solutions with a fair or acceptable amount of effort, time, and cost
- There is no need to make any decisions at this point, unless you “feel” sure you can solve it
Let your work sink in
Before you go to bed at night, read your problem as well as your list of solutions. By reading before bed, you are freshly installing these thoughts into your subconscious mind, and your subconscious mind will send it out to the universe.
Remember to keep the faith, knowing that there is a solution and that you will find it.
The universe must yield to you
One day, unexpectedly, the universe will yield the answer to you when you least expect it. It may come to you in a subtle way or in an explosive way. The solution may seem so simple to you that you’d wonder why you didn’t think of it sooner.
